Real Sociedad thrashed Getafe 3-1 on Sunday afternoon to secure their first win of the La Liga season and keep pace with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid at the top of the table.
The match was a tense affair as both teams played hard for every ball, but Real Sociedad's dominance in possession ultimately proved too much for Getafe to handle. The visitors were reduced to ten men early on after defender Juanfran was sent off for a second bookable offence, but Real Sociedad never let up in their pursuit of victory.
The home side took the lead through the impressive Isak, who scored his first goal for the club from the penalty spot after being fouled by defender Juanma Lara. However, Getafe soon responded through midfielder David Villa, who scored his first goal since returning to the team following a loan spell away from the club.
Real Sociedad levelled the scoreline through another impressive display from Isak, who scored his second goal of the game from close range after a well-worked move down the right flank. The visitors then went ahead courtesy of a powerful header from defender Diego Godin, who finished off a fine team move.
Getafe continued to push for an equaliser, but Real Sociedad held firm and secured all three points with a clinical finish from substitute midfielder Ruben Garcia.
With this win, Real Sociedad moved up to sixth place in the league table, just two points behind leaders Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. They now face a tough test against Sevilla next weekend, while Getafe will be looking to bounce back from defeat and build momentum for the rest of the season.
